Upon arriving in Brisbane, not long after, a friend invited me to explore the night market. In my mind, scenes of Taiwanese night markets emerged, yet I'm fully aware that it will be an entirely different experience, so I'm eagerly looking forward to visiting the "Australian version of a night market."
First stop: Eat Street Northshore. When we arrived, the wind was incredibly strong, possibly due to its location near the wharf. This used to be a container wharf but has now been transformed into a night market filled with exotic eats.
After a short walk from the parking lot, we could see the entrance constructed from shipping containers, with a big "Hello" sign on top. Following that, there's a ticket check where staff verify entry passes. Yes, indeed, Australian night markets usually require payment for entry. It's around 6 AUD per person, roughly 120 TWD. Tickets can be purchased online beforehand. Personally, I don't find it expensive considering the great setup inside.

Upon entering, you'll encounter several charmingly designed food trucks, alongside some art installations. My personal favorite is this heart-shaped neon light decoration, adding a touch of artistic flair to the atmosphere.

It lit up the night with a touch of love, radiating the glow of affection all around.

There's also a section with a retro theme that I absolutely adore, especially the disco ball hanging overhead. The ambiance here feels like scenes from those old movies you'd watch on TV, where high school sweethearts would meet up in places like this. Experiencing it firsthand felt just like what I'd seen on TV, so I guess it's safe to say I've lived out that dream!

If you're feeling tired from all the walking, there's a relaxing dining area by the wharf where you can take a break. The evening hasn't fully set in, and the crowd isn't overwhelming yet, making it the perfect spot to unwind with a beer in hand.

As we walked, hunger struck, so we headed to the diner area, ready to order some food. The options here leaned more towards main courses, except for hot dogs, which were categorized as snacks. For those with smaller appetites, you'd probably feel full pretty quickly here.

First, my friend and I ordered wood-fired pizza paired with the famous ginger beer here. The ginger beer was actually brewed by the owner themselves. In Australia, there's a culture of brewing your own beer, and you can even find homebrewing equipment in supermarkets. I was eager to try brewing but lacked enough knowledge, so I opted to taste the owner's homemade ginger beer instead.

After purchasing, we settled in the central seating area to savor our food. True to its nature as freshly baked pizza, the melted cheese and ham were a perfect combination—so delicious that I almost ordered a second one. However, we wanted to try other foods, so we resisted the temptation. We opted for the Hawaiian pizza, which had pineapple inside. To any Italians reading this, please don't be offended!
Trying ginger beer for the first time was quite an experience. The first sip left me with a lot of question marks, and by the second, I couldn't bring myself to drink more. It's a taste that's hard to describe—combining the spiciness of ginger with the bitterness of beer creates a truly unique flavor. With no sweetness, it might be challenging for those who haven't tried it before. Yet, when in a new place, it's part of the adventure to sample unfamiliar foods and drinks. I still recommend giving ginger beer a try; the novelty factor is definitely there.

Next, passing by a shop that seemed to sell what looked like Spanish seafood paella but without a menu, I approached and gestured with my finger to interact with the staff to place an order. After receiving the receipt, I took a glance and thought the staff had given me their signature.

Later, when I went to pick up my order, the staff said a bunch of things, but I couldn't understand at all, so I just nervously laughed.

After receiving the order, I moved to the nearby seating area to enjoy the meal and noticed pineapple decorations on the table. Paired with the tropical-themed setting, what struck me was their genuine use of real pineapples as decorations. It was incredibly fun and adorable, showing genuine effort and creativity.
After taking photos, I started tasting the seafood paella and realized it truly was seafood paella. Squeezing some lemon juice on top made it even more delicious. Later, upon closer inspection of the receipt, I noticed it said "Spanish," indicating the Spanish style of the dish, not that the staff had signed randomly.

After eating, I started strolling around to see what else was being sold. When I passed by the beer specialty store, I decided to pause and have a beer before continuing. So, I began sipping it right at the entrance. A glass was around 5 Australian dollars. Beer enthusiasts might want to give it a try, but personally, I enjoyed it without being able to pinpoint the differences. Comparatively, I think Taiwan's draft beer is more enjoyable.

The entire night market area is quite expansive and segmented into various zones. There are five main themes featuring over 70 vendors offering food from Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. Additionally, there are live music performances that let you enjoy your meal with some tunes. While wandering around, you might also encounter street performers showcasing their talents live.

Absolutely indulge in the live music performances; they're so infectious that your body can't help but move along with the rhythm.
Alternatively, you can also head to the outdoor area and find a seat. Overall, it's a place filled with beautiful lights, great ambiance, and plenty to eat. There's such a wide variety of food options available that you needn't worry about not finding something to your taste. Even though there are Asian food options here, being in a different place, I'd still prioritize trying foods I've never had before.
Eat Street
Eat Street is more akin to the holiday markets occasionally held in Taiwan rather than the traditional Taiwanese night markets.

Another smaller night market is Bite Markets, which was conveniently close to where I was staying at that time. After work, my friend drove us there to explore.

At the entrance, there's a sign displaying "Bite," and similarly, entry requires a ticket. The cost is around 3 AUD, cheaper compared to Eat Street. In contrast, the setup here is more ordinary. The stalls resemble those at Taiwanese night markets, with about 40 vendors and even some play facilities for children.
Bite Markets
Bite Markets play more popular songs, but personally, I prefer the ambiance created by live performances.

What surprised me were some vendors here with captivating designs that caught my eye, making me linger for a closer look. Surprisingly, the food menus seemed rather ordinary in comparison.
As we were strolling around, we unexpectedly stumbled upon a vendor selling guabao. My friend, feeling nostalgic for flavors from home, decided to order one. However, it looked like a modified version of guabao – apart from the meat, it even had cucumber inside. Watching my friend enjoy it with relish, although the taste of guabao was different from that in Taiwan, it managed to ease her homesickness.

I ordered some Dutch poffertjes, and they looked exactly like the picture on the menu. It's a treat for those with a sweet tooth—covered in loads of powdered sugar and chocolate sauce. By the third one, it became overwhelmingly sweet, maybe because Australians tend to prefer really sweet treats. Cakes and donuts here are often super sweet. That's why I seldom indulge in Australian desserts. There was only one exception—a handmade brownie I found at the market. It wasn't overly sweet and tasted fantastic; it's the only sweet treat here that I could really enjoy.

Later, my friend ordered something similar to Korean-style fried chicken. Since we arrived close to closing time, many vendors started offering discounts. This plate of fried chicken was just 1 dollar, and it turned out to be our favorite dish. The tangy-sweet sauce paired with the fried chicken was incredibly delicious. Sadly, when we wanted to buy more, they were already sold out.

The venue, while not large, includes a play area for kids. However, in my opinion, this playground isn't suitable for children as I find it somewhat risky. This might also be considered a cultural clash.

Overall, this place is more akin to Taiwanese night markets and is more suitable for families to visit. However, personally, I still prefer the ambiance that Eat Street offers.
