Just arrived in Brisbane and getting ready to see koalas. Last time at the zoo in Sydney, I fell in love with koalas in just a second. So this time, I'm heading to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.

We arrived by bus from the city center, which took about 50 minutes. Upon arrival, at the entrance, you can immediately see a giant koala sculpture. Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the only place in Queensland where it's legal to hold and take photos with koalas up close, but reservations need to be made in advance through their official website.

At the entrance, there's a large map available for those, like me, who might be afraid of forgetting details. I tend to take a picture of it first and then explore while referencing the map. Although exploring without the map can be quite interesting, it adds a sense of discovery to the sanctuary.

As you stroll around, you'll find outdoor shops selling coffee and water. It's a good idea to grab a cup of coffee while enjoying the view of the animals, especially considering Australia's reputation for great coffee. As for water, I'd recommend bringing your own as the prices at the sanctuary can be quite high. Apart from being a tourist area, the proceeds from the zoo also contribute to the well-being of the animals. So, purchasing from there is a way of supporting a better environment for the animals and their care.

Moving on to explore the sanctuary, the first thing I encountered was a group of bats napping. It was my first time seeing bats during the day rather than within a cave, where I'd probably feel a bit apprehensive and just want to leave. Thankfully, here there was an additional layer of protection that allowed me to observe them freely without feeling scared.

The next encounter was with the pink cockatoos. In fact, pink cockatoos look quite adorable.

Kind reminder: Taking photos is permitted in most areas, but there are some animals that cannot be photographed. Signs indicating such restrictions will be present, and remember, flash photography is prohibited.

As you continue your stroll, you'll come across an area bustling with people, and that's the koala section. Koalas are undeniably adorable. Despite being indifferent towards koalas before, seeing them in person instantly made me fall in love with these charming creatures.

It's impossible not to fall in love when you witness a koala mother feeding her little one eucalyptus leaves. For instance, I found myself falling in love with koalas all over again. Just watching them laze around in the trees brings such a soothing and heartwarming feeling.

It was an incredibly adorable moment when the staff had to replace the koalas' eucalyptus leaves. They collected the old leaves, and watching the koalas all lined up, seemingly unsure of what to do, observing the staff, was absolutely precious.

After the new leaves were put in place, you could see the koalas quickly darting up to eat them. This area is highly recommended for everyone to spend some time in—it's truly delightful to witness.

Next up was the reptile area, where the abundance of snakes made my friends speak Parseltongue. Hopefully, Harry Potter fans won't be mad at us!

Next, let me introduce you to one of Australia's most ferocious animals, the Dingo, known as '丁格犬' in Chinese. They look somewhat like a Shiba Inu but are the top predators in the Australian food chain. They prey on small animals and even hunt down cattle. They're considered to be on par with lions in terms of their predatory status.

Without learning about dingoes at this sanctuary, if encountered in the wild, one might even feel inclined to pet them because they do look incredibly cute.

Moving further inside, you'll find a large grassy area, the home of the kangaroos. The smaller kangaroos, when standing, are about 60 centimeters tall, roughly half my height, appearing very cute and less threatening. Visitors can purchase feed at the entrance to offer them; the feed bags are also made of edible material, so it's harmless if the kangaroos ingest them. While walking through the grass to find the kangaroos, one needs to be cautious as there's a significant amount of kangaroo droppings on the ground.

Indeed, the little kangaroos are incredibly cute and quite approachable, probably due to the frequent feeding by many visitors. The kangaroo fur feels slightly coarse to the touch, unlike the softness of a bunny's fur, perhaps because their outdoor habitat demands fur for protection.

Besides the joeys (baby kangaroos), the sanctuary also houses adult kangaroos. They usually hang out in a corner, basking in the sun, generally indifferent to human interaction. They wouldn't bother you, and you wouldn't necessarily want to disturb them either.

Spotting an adult kangaroo can indeed be quite impressive as they are significantly large. If one were to stand up, they might reach about 180 centimeters and possess a muscular physique. Admiring their fascinating presence from a distance and taking photos is probably the best approach.

Within the sanctuary, there are platypuses. However, as they are housed indoors in a dimly lit area, visitors often take photos with the model platypuses placed outside.

I really love Australian zoos, mainly because the animals are displayed in semi-open enclosures. Besides being able to observe the animals up close, it unconsciously instills a greater desire to protect them. Australia is also renowned for its animal conservation efforts, and in this environment, there's a natural inclination to respect the animals in the wild.
